Tyler Klassen: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and a registered Professional Engineer in Canada. He has been a Sales Engineer with Littelfuse Startco since 1996. Over the course of his career, he has worked with many system designers and end users around the world to find solutions for ground-fault relaying and neutral-grounding-resistor applications.
Abstract: Many of the problems associated with ungrounded electrical distribution systems are overcome with resistance grounding. Resistance grounding can eliminate transient overvoltages, reduce flash hazard, limit voltage exposure to personnel, and provide appropriate tripping levels for selective ground-fault detection and coordination. Historically, many mines in China have been designed with ungrounded distribution systems; however, modern Chinese electrical codes allow the use of resistance grounding. This seminar will explain the concept and benefits of resistance grounding, and illustrate how to properly select grounding resistor size, ground-fault relay operating values, and portable mine-power-cable protection.
